Yes, our first African map ! Morocco is a well-known (really?) country that is quite big by the way. And yes, usually, generating African countries take even more time than for European ones, as they are much bigger.
But here we did with Morocco !!

Happy new year, everyone! May this new year bring you joy, (good) surprises, and new EarthMaker maps (stay tuned)!
2025 has been a good year for EarthMaker, so let's rewind and see what we've done this year.

Support us

Back in January 2025, we launched our GitHub Sponsors profile.
In 2025, we received a total of 2 donations, for a total amount of $25.
Generating maps costs money, and so does hosting them, so if you find our maps useful, feel free to make a donation through the box below:

Of course, do NOT donate if you can't afford it. You can instead spread the word about our maps too!

Small break

In June, we took a 3-month break, during which I rewrote the download part of our Discord bot to serve the maps in a faster and more efficient way. I used to be able to download the maps at 10 MB/s, now I can download the same maps at 50 MB/s!

New maps

Before our break, we were able to generate some maps, yet we never released them. We fixed this by releasing these maps starting in October 2025 and continuing until February 2026.
In 2025, we released 6 maps. And we may (or may not) release even more in 2026. Stay tuned!

Updated maps

In 2025, we updated 1 map, which was the Spain map. We replaced it with the Iberia map which of course contains Spain, but also Portugal.

Trailers

In 2025, we released 12 trailers (2 for each map, a vertical version and a long version).
Our YouTube channel gained 36 subscribers (for a total of 56), our videos were viewed 10,638 times, for a total watch time of 25.3 hours. Most of the views came from our vertical trailers which explains why we had 1000x more views than last year, yet our watch time was only about 7% greater than in 2024.
Our top 3 most viewed trailers were:

Long form:
3. Switzerland Trailer (306 views, made in 2024)
2. Poland Trailer (336 views)

Korea Trailer (504 views)

Short form:
3. United Kingdom / Ireland Trailer (1,696 views)
2. Germany Trailer (1,704 views)

Poland Trailer (1,877 views)

Taiwan Trailer (1,877 views)
This is correct, two of our short form trailers got the same amount of views.

Hello TikTok...

In 2025, we launched our TikTok profile, hoping to gain more visibility. So far, none of our trailers have passed the 220 views mark. If you use TikTok, make sure to drop us a follow!

...and hello Instagram.

In 2025, we also launched our Instagram profile. It is currently empty, but we'll publish our trailers on this platform too, going forward.

Some Discord stats

In 2025, 1,712 messages were sent on our Discord server, across all channels. The most active channel was of course our general chat, with 882 messages.
107 people joined our server this year, either to download maps, maybe talk, or just to download a map and leave.
We ended the year with 314 members on our Discord server.
I promised I would install Arch Linux as my main OS if we reached 333 members before the end of the year. The goal was not reached, but I'll relaunch the challenge for this year.
Do you want me to install <del>and suffer</del> with Arch Linux? It's very easy, simply join our Discord server, and if we reach 333 members (or more) at the end of the year, I'll do it once I manage to buy RAM (and other components) at a decent price.

Hello 2026

This is not the end of EarthMaker, we still have some maps to release (stay tuned, the Benelux map drops next week).
Stay funky, and take care!

Merry Christmas to all of you celebrating! 🎄
Today, we're releasing our France map, as we promised some months ago!
Ewwww... Fr*nce!

New record!

That's right, this map is our biggest release... yet (stay tuned™️). You will need 123GB of storage on your computer to download all of the parts, and the uncompressed map is about 145GB. Will people even download it? I have no clue...
As usual, just join our Discord server to download the map!

Failed attempt...

I always record the trailers with 32 chunks of render distance. But over the last weeks, a mod has gone viral, called Voxy. Its permise is pretty simple: have 2048 chunks of render distance, without compromising FPS, thanks to the power of level of details (aka LODs).
Importing this map into Voxy took litteral hours (and ate 128GB of storage in the process). But once the chunks were rendered, the performance hit was unnoticeable.
However, Flashback, yet supported by Voxy seemed to keep some kind of hole between the LODs and the actual chunks. I will retry later on, hopefully when the mod will be less unstable.

...(almost) lost media

I'm not even joking, we were planning on making a trailer a while (almost a year ago!) back, but it never got ready. We almost lost any evidence of it. But I managed to get the first few seconds of the said version. Here they are, before they become lost media:

Trailer

Of course, I had to make a trailer for this brand new map. So here is it, with my render distance set to 32 chunks.
Enjoy!

Last reminder: we're trying to reach 333 members on our Discord server by the end of the year. If we succeed, I'll install Arch Linux as my next OS. Make sure to share the EarthMaker project to anybody who might be interested in our maps!

As promised about a month and a half ago, we're releasing our Germany map.

As promised about a month and a half ago, we're releasing our Germany map.

Are we there yet?

Yes! As usual, our maps are free until further notice! So all you have to do is to join our Discord server and download the map!

New trailer

Our last trailer generated more engagement than our previous trailers. Seriously! We went from 22 subscribers to 37 in the span of a week (I did the math, that's about a 73% increase!).

In the previous trailers, the recording and camera effects were done using the good old ReplayMod, but I realized it was sometimes rendering choppy videos.
To avoid this issue, I tried out Flashback. This mode has more features, and does not have this issue. At least until now. There are only one major I could find to Flashback when comparing both mods: the export duration is longer on Flashback. Otherwise, the upgrade was worth it.

Oh, and before I forget again, you'll see in the trailer the place where this very specific map was generated. Will you be able to find it ?

Enjoy the new trailer!

In our last blog post, we talked about our future plans for EarthMaker, but we also have announced new maps to be released in the coming weeks.

In our last blog post, we talked about our future plans for EarthMaker, but we also have announced new maps to be released in the coming weeks.
As promised, we're releasing today our United-Kingdom / Ireland map.

Wait... How?

While discussing our future maps with some friends, I was asked this question several times:

You guys don't have a server to generate maps anymore. How comes you can generate new maps?

And that question made sense, because they were missing a key piece of information.
We had used our previous server to (almost) its full potential.

When procrastination becomes your best friend...

At the time, we had planned around eight maps even before renting a new server to generate maps. Then we finally rented the said server. We discussed the hardware specs (and some software specs too!) in the previous blog post, if you're interested.
This allowed us to regenerate the maps that had either some quality issues or weren't as detailed as they were meant to be.

Once the maps that required updating or regeneration had been completed, we then commenced work on new maps.

A few months later, these maps were all ready to go. But we wanted to make a trailer alongside the release of the maps.
While I am not in a position to speak on behalf of all trailer makers, I can say with confidence that the part of the process that takes me the longest is the recording of the footage and the application of the camera effects.

And so... I had considered postponing this task.
This was until we ceased generating maps for the time being.

Semi-revival

Fast forward until september.
We have prepared our "classic" maps for download. However, we also had our unreleased maps that were awaiting public release.

We had sufficient unreleased maps to release one every other week for a period of five months.

This gave me enough motivation to make trailers for the upcomming maps.

Oh and by the way we had a Fr*nce trailer in the making, but it got cancelled...

New trailer

You might think I'm the only one making the trailers. And... you're wrong.

It's true that I'm the one recording the footage and editing the trailers, but I'm always assisted by älg (helping choosing which places we showcase in the trailers) and DALIX for visual assets. And they review the trailer before we publish it too!

And after a few hours of work, our new trailer is finally ready:

And I was glad I finished the trailer early enough, as I then opened my laptop to fix the overheat issues I had by cleaning the dust, and replacing the thermal paste, then I realized I lost my thermal paste tube...

As you may know, generating these maps is quite costy. Feel free to check the an in-depth explaination below.

<details class="details_gxN3 alert alert--info details_VHZp" data-collapsed="true">
More details about the server

We used to pay almost 70€ monthly for the server. The performence/price ratio was good, for the price however, but this is still a significant amount.
Here are the hardware specs of the said server:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900 (12 cores, 24 threads @ 3.1 GhZ / 4.3 GhZ in Boost mode)

RAM: 128 GB (4*32 GB) ECC

Storage: 2*1.92 TB (3.84 TB), in a ZFS pool

The map generation tool we use runs only on Windows, but since we've had some issues with Windows randomly throwing BSODs, instead of installing Windows Server on the bare-metal, we've decided to install it in a virtual machine.
Unlike a "standard" virtual machine you could create in VirtualBox or VMWare Workstation, we used the KVM (Kernel Virtual Machine) hypervisor. This allows us to have little to no performence loss (about 5%, or less), as the VM is running in the Linux Kernel, right above the bare-metal hardware, instead of running in the user space.
To acheive this, we installed Proxmox Virtual Environment, an open source hypervisor (yes!) which allows us to create VMs using the KVM hypervisor (heck yes!) and QEMU, while exposing a web interface for management (this is peak!).
This setup is of course overkill, but it's much faster to boot Windows through this than to log in to the Hetzner web UI and then ask for a "button press". As a bonus point, Proxmox also provides a console to view the VM screen, which Hetzner does not allows, unless we order a KVM Console (or boot the server in the vKVM console, or buy a Dell server, tho they are expensive for our usecase).
The installation was not complicated, but since Hetzner has not provided a Proxmox ZFS setup at the time, we've had to install it through Rescue mode, inside a QEMU virtual machine with the phyisical drives mounted. If you're interested, the instructions are here.

</details>

For the moment, we don't have any plans to generate more maps, but this does not mean, that we won't continue.
New maps will release when we have the financial means to cover the server costs.
If you wish to support our work, please consider donating via the button below:

Making trailers for our maps was something that was planned from the beginning of the project.
Let's sit down and talk a bit about the reason why we haven't done it before.

Context

I think I need to give you some context. You may or may not remember the PlanetMinecraft incident.
Being on PlanetMinecraft has a huge advantage. It's a community-trusted website that's been around for a long time. And with half a million of maps (578,460 and counting as of today), it is easy to find the map you want. And because this website has here for a long time, it has a really good SEO score, which means that people who post their projects here have a good chance of being found by Google or any other search engine.
In fact, it's because we were using PlanetMinecraft that we had new members joining on a regular basis (sometimes we had 3-4 people join on the same day).

And as expected, since we removed all of our maps from the website, fewer and fewer people joined the server.

Creating a website to showcase our map was just the first phase of getting out of PlanetMinecraft. The issue is that our SEO score is low. One way to improve it is to have backlinks from a website with high SEO score.
Most social media sites don't make it easy for search engines to discover and index the content. But YouTube does.

That's where the trailers come in. YouTube has a good SEO score, and we might be able to eventually link back to our website in the video description. At the very least, we would be able to redirect people to our website if the Google crawler won't take in account the backlink.
Another thing to do would be to make a Shorts version of the trailer. Lots of people are watching YouTube Shorts, so that's another way to get more attention.

Now that we know what to do, it's time to pick a map. I choose the Switzerland map because it was the first map we ever released.
To record, all I used was the good old Replay Mod, with the PureBDCraft 256x resource pack and the Sildur's Vibrant Extreme Shaders. As simple as that.

That's it, after 3-4 hours of work, the trailer is ready! And the Shorts version too!
Here is the result:

They do a wonderful job, and the whole issue was on our end.

Back in the day, when we launched the project, we were not really known at all (and now we got over 300 members, which is way beyond our expectations).
We created a PlanetMinecraft account, to show around our maps, hopefully some people would notice (and yes, people noticed).

And everything went well, until that day, where all of our maps (but 3 for some reason) were taken down.

However, there was more than just a link issue. We tried to appeal for one map only (to save both our and PMC's staff time), and we learned about a rule that makes the whole project forbidden on PMC.

To be fair, that rule actually makes sense, yet in that case it wouldn't be possible to build our maps by hand, a block at a time.

Moving on

We then had to comply, and removed all of our maps from PlanetMinecraft. The only way we now have to gain attention is to have our own website... A website like the one you're currently viewing.

Random fact

We first planned to get the
earthmaker.ch
domain, but we figured out the
earthmaker.world
domain was available at a decent price, so we took this one instead!

Of course, we won't get the same attention we had on PlanetMinecraft, so if you enjoy our maps, feel free to share our website with your friends!

Instead of posting the maps on PlanetMinecraft, we'll post them on this website, and we'll make teasers to post on our YouTube channel.

I'd like to apologie to the PlanetMinecraft staff for wasting their time and breaking their rules.
Also, again, please don't harass them (screenshot was slightly censored for a reason), they are doing a wonderful job at moderating their website, which even in 2024 is still a good place to find awesome Minecraft content.
